From Our Executive Director

When the first Sav-A-Life Center was opened in 1980 under the ministry of Wales Goebel, it set out to offer compassion and truth to women who were facing unplanned pregnancies in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Since that time, God has expanded the ministry far beyond what could have been imagined. There are now more than 65 Pregnancy Resource Centers in the Southeastern United States and one in Ecuador.

Sav-A-Life of Dale County is one of those 65 Centers. In 1990, God placed a burden on my heart for women in our area facing an unplanned pregnancy. It was not until 1999 that God brought that burden to the forefront and a plan began to emerge. After participating in a Mission Trip with Dale Baptist Association, my heart was tugged at once again with this desire to minister in our own area. I began to pray and seek God’s direction, and as I did so, He brought this burden for women facing unplanned pregnancies closer. Through much prayer, asking my husband and Pastor to join me in prayer, I began to put feet to the prayers and placed a call to Sav-A-Life in Birmingham.

After speaking with Mr. Goebel, who, incidentally, answered the telephone, we received a packet of information and began the steps for our own pregnancy center. Another call was placed to Sav-A-Life Wiregrass, and I began to volunteer with wonderful ladies who gave much needed guidance about parenting programs and administration of those programs.

Once again, after much prayer, local individuals joined in the vision and we began the process of forming Sav-A-Life of Dale County. Our Center opened on June 5, 2000.

Sav-A-Life of Dale County is a non-denominational Christian ministry dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of women facing an unplanned pregnancy. We offer hope, truth, and compassion. Sav-A-Life of Dale County is committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, and we are committed to making abortion unnecessary and undesirable.

On July 1, 2005, Sav-A-Life Outreach Centers merged with Care-Net, which supports over 800 pregnancy resource centers in both the United States and Canada, providing educational and spiritual encouragement to each Center. With a common vision, this merger will only strengthen and expand the national pregnancy center movement.
